SERENITY

SERENITY

The river swirled and danced
My life rushing past
With chance after chance
Would this be the last?

What was I leaving?
And where had I been?
Where was I going?
Would I do it again?

This bridge to somewhere
I'd been here before.
A longing so deep
My soul would not sleep.

But emptiness had called me
Always keeping me there.
Strangely comforting
And always familiar.

Once again on the bridge
My heart opens wide
It spills the nothing
that resided inside.

The river embraces it
Sweeping it away
I dare not look back
And so make my way.

One step at a time
Toward the opposite shore
The memories of nothing
Are with me no more.
